Music and The Holidays

Dec 01, 2023

I have always love this time of year, especially hearing all the Christmas music on the radio.  Yes, I am one of those people who starts listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving!

Music has always played an important part in my life.  I remember begging my parents to let me take piano lessons when I was young.  I was thrilled and surprised when a piano showed up at our house on my sixth birthday!  I began taking piano lessons that same day and continued through high school.  That piano is now home with me in Joliet!  In sixth grade, I took up the violin and still enjoy playing both the violin and piano today.

I am thrilled to be part of a school district that offers a music curriculum for our students at our 15 elementary schools and four junior high schools.  Just recently, our All City Mariachi Band were invited to perform at the Illinois Association of School Boards Joint Annual Conference in Chicago and our District 86 Choir sounded great at the Joliet Light Up the Holidays Parade.  We have so many talented students!

I encourage you to attend one of our upcoming Junior High Winter Concerts to support our students.  The students and directors are amazing!  All concerts begin at 7:00 p.m.

December 5 - Gompers Band, Choir, and Orchestra Concert, 1501 Copperfield Avenue

December 5 - Washington Band, Choir, and Orchestra Concert, 402 Richards Street

December 7 - Dirksen Band, Choir, and Orchestra Concert, 203 S. Midland Avenue

December 7 - Hufford Band, Choir, and Orchestra Concert, 1125 N. Larkin Avenue
