Happy New Year!
Jan 09, 2024
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a nice, relaxing Winter Break with family and friends. I look forward to what the new year brings and I'm thankful for the privilege to serve as Superintendent for Joliet Public Schools District 86.
I know I am already looking forward to spring weather. I am not a fan of winter. It might be a time to pull out my heavier coat! Many of my colleagues are amazed that I don't bundle up right away when the first snowflake falls.
Please join me in thanking our dedicated employees who are outside every day in the cold, snowy, rainy, and slushy weather making sure our parking lots and sidewalks are shoveled and safe for staff and students. Thank you to our neighbors as well who shovel in front of their homes to allow our students to walk safely to and from school.
E-Learning Days will be utilized on days when inclement weather prohibit school to be in session. During the winter, please remind your children to bring their District technology device home every day. We never know what Mother Nature has in store for us!
An E-Learning Day will include synchronous learning (live instruction with the teacher) and asynchronous learning (independent learning). Teachers will share login instructions through Seesaw (Kindergarten through second grade) and Google Classroom (third grade through eighth grade). E-Learning paper packets that were distributed earlier this year should only be completed if your child cannot log onto their device. School start times for an E-Learning Day remain the same. Attendance will be taken. You can read all about our E-Learning Day protocols by visiting the District E-Learning Days website.
Families will be notified of an E-Learning Day by a broadcast phone and/or email message. We will try to send out messages by 6:00 a.m. if schools need to be closed. A message will not be sent if schools are in session. Announcements will also be posted on our website and social media accounts: Facebook (Joliet Public Schools District 86, and Joliet Public Schools District 86 Spanish) and X/Twitter (@JolietSD86 and @Joliet86Spanish). We will make every effort to have in-person learning if it is safe.
If you ever have a question, comment, concern, or compliment about one of our schools or the District, send a Let's Talk message through the District Let's Talk website or by clicking on the Let's Talk logo on the District website or here.
