Social Media

May 25, 2018

Technology today has provided a means by which we can communicate more rapidly and connect with people all over the world.  There are great ways social media has benefited our society, but also some challenges when it is not managed well.

Young people today have access to multiple social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and SnapChat.  These platforms allow them to communicate with their friends and connect outside of face-to-face interactions.  This access can be a double-edged sword at times.

The current climate in society today has led to multiple dangerous situations related to our young people and schools.  Through social media there have been messages posted that can forewarn adults of potential struggles young people are facing.  However, in order to be able to help our young people, we have to monitor their social media usage.

As we continue to partner together, it is important that we all take steps to actively listen to the young people around us.  We listen through conversations, through developing deeper relationships with them, and by monitoring their social media usage.  This degree of listening will help us to identify areas of need for our young people.  I hope you will partner with us as we work to ensure physical and emotional safety for all.
