Dirksen Junior High School students were treated to a special visitor during their remote learning band class last week. Film Music Composer and Hufford Junior High graduate Jermaine Stegall joined the students in their Zoom class from California.
Mr. Stegall told the students he played the saxophone in the Hufford Junior High School band when he was their age. He is a graduate of Hufford Junior High and Joliet Central High School.
"I was thrilled that Mr. Stegall took time out of his busy schedule to join our class," said Dirksen Junior High School Band Director Laura Armstrong, "It is so important to keep students engaged during remote learning."
The students were impressed to hear that he recently completed the music score for the upcoming Coming 2 America movie and provided additional music scoring for the Christmas Chronicles and the Christmas Chronicles 2 movies. Mr. Stegall also stressed the importance of reading and being disciplined to reach personal goals. The 31 students, in grades sixth, seventh, and eighth, also had a chance to ask him questions during the virtual meeting.
