School Board Members and Superintendent recognize Washington student poster winners

Congratulations to Washington Junior High Students eighth-grade student A’shia Hobbs and sixth-grade student Emily Acevedo who won the Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest. Ashia Hobbs' Peace Poster also won at the Illinois State Competition. Her poster will now be judged in the regional competition which includes the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky. This is the first time in the 25-year history of the Joliet Lions Club that a local poster has won at the state level.

The students were recognized by the Joliet Public Schools District 86 Board of School Inspectors at their December school board meeting. Washington Junior High School Assistant Principal Sara Coombs and art teacher Christine May also attended the meeting to congratulate the students.

“We are so proud of all the talented students in our district,” said Joliet Public Schools District 86 Superintendent Dr. Theresa Rouse, “We are hopeful A’shia’s poster will do well in the regional competition.”
