Washington Junior High Team
Congratulations to the student math teams from Dirksen, Gompers, Hufford, and Washington Junior High Schools who competed with five other junior high schools in the 20th annual Joliet West High School Mu Alpha Theta Math Competition. Students were judged in a variety of areas including circles, matrices, missing angles, monomials, polygons, and pythagorean theorem.
Dirksen seventh-grade students picked up several awards including placing first place awards for polygons and pythagorean theorem and second place in circles. Washington seventh-grade students received second place ribbons in pythagorean theorem and third place awards in circles. In addition, seventh-grade students at Washington tied with Hufford in the group category. Washington Junior High students also place third as the overall team winner.
Dirksen students placing first place included: Brandon Carbajal, Miranda Casilla, Eduardo Delgado Valente, Alexis Hernandez Rosales, Antonio Manrique, Makayala Mays, Sophia Ortiz, and Osvaldo Rodriguez.
Washington students placing third place in the overall team category included: Vincente Aguilera, Aaron Aguirre, Melody Collier, Violet Conboy, Logan Grabo, Angela Guzman, Andrianna Harden, Adelyn Hill, Rocco Jones, Valeria Leon, Margaret O’Hara, Abigail Ortiz, Jovanni Ortiz, Johan Rodriguez, Deniss Ruvalcaba, Brendan Scovel, Abel Torres, and Morgan Williams.
Washington eighth-grade students also placed second in the group category and took home third place ribbons in the missing angle category. Eighth-grade students from Gompers placed third in matrices and in the group category. Dirksen eighth-grade winners received third place ribbons in the monomials category.
