Dirksen Eighth Grade Students Receive Scholarships

Congratulations to Dirksen Junior High School eighth grade students Nelvin Chavez and Yuriria Villanueva who received the annual Charles A. Kransberger Memorial Scholarship Awards. The Joliet Grade Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence presented a $250 check to both students to further pursue their academic goals in high school.

Both students exceled academically while students at Dirksen Junior High School. After high school, Nelvin plans to go to college to be a social studies teacher. Yuriria was also a member of Dirksen Junior Beta and the STEM Club. She plans to become a nurse after college.

The Charles A. Kransberger Memorial Scholarship Award was established in memory of Charles Kransberger who spent his entire 30-year professional career serving children in Joliet Public Schools District 86. The annual awards recognize two Dirksen Junior High students who have excelled academically. Since 2005, the Joliet Grade Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence has awarded $8,000 in Charles Kransberger scholarships to Dirksen Junior High students.
