Welcome to Dirksen Junior High School! "Home of the Dirksen Senators"
Dirksen Junior High School is a school with a very diverse student population of approximately 600 students. We are very excited about this upcoming school year, and anticipate another very successful one. ISAT test results indicate 89% of the students meet/exceed state Math standards, and 79% meet/exceed Reading Standards. Dirksen Junior High School offers our students challenging experiences in the core curriculum: Language Arts/Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies. However, to continue to meet the needs of our students and provide them with enriching experiences, students also have classes in Fine/Practical Arts: nine weeks (one quarter) of Character Education, Music, Art, and Writing Lab. In addition, they will attend three quarters of Physical Education and one quarter of Health. Joliet Public Schools District 86 has a very strong music program. Dirksen Junior High School Band, Orchestra, and Choir all have achieved high awards at competitions. After-school opportunities include: Cross Country, Basketball, Wrestling, Volleyball, tutoring, and our 21st Century program. Technology opportunities include daily computer time, use of an interactive whiteboard, many educational websites, and additional technology programming.
We strive to provide successful educational opportunities for all learners, challenging those that excel, and provide academic interventions for those in need. Staff at Dirksen Junior High School are committed to every student, preparing them for high school, and ultimately, for life long learning.
