Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program

Services for students with hearing losses are provided for students from age 3 through junior high school. Two programs are available to meet the individual needs of students: a cluster-site program and a a home-school based itinerant program.

Students from Grundy and Will Counties are eligible to attend the cluster-site program housed at Thomas Jefferson School (Early Childhood-5th grade) and Dirksen School (6th-8th grades).

Students who need less intensive services and are residents of District 86 are eligible to receive services at their home school.

The cluster-site program is based upon the total communication philosophy—sign language in combination with speech. Students receive audiological, speech therapy and interpreter services as appropriate. In addition, students participate in the general education program as determined by their Individual Education Plan.
